THE BALIKBAYAN: WELCOME BACK JEROME FONTAMILLAS
I think everybody knows that Switchfoot’s guitarist/keyboardist Jerome Fontamillas is a full blooded Filipino. Picture here on the left shows Jerome playing the according in their Hurricane Tour in the UK. I remember him mention in an interview before that he resided in Cubao or Pasay when he was still at a very young age. My girlfriend, who watched their Hurricane tour concert in London, got the chance to meet Jerome and the other Switchfoot boys. The photo here was taken by her. Lucky for my girlfriend who has this meet-and-greet pass and she was able to chat with Switchfoot. She got the chance to talk to Jerome and heard Philippine Switchfoot saying his ancestors are from Baguio. And yes, I am working and residing here in Baguio at the moment. He also mentioned that the band was challenged to eat balut, which is an exotic delicacy here in the Philippines, the last time they here in HOW I KNEW ABOUT SWITCHFOOT
I first knew Switchfoot when I saw the music video of their song “New Way to be Human” at a Christian Music TV channel when I was still in college. That was way back year 2002. There were just the three of them that time – Jon Foreman, Tim Foreman and Chad. The young Jon Foreman, sporting a short hair and some mustache, giving a teenage smile that is so innocent looking, never looked like a rockstar at all. Haha.
But that video that time actually did not interest me at all. And there came Mandy Moore with the hit song “Only Hope” from the OST of the movie “A Walk to Remember”. And have to admit to have watched that movie, unaware that it was an original song from the Switchfoot. I was also unaware that Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman sang duet with Mandy Moore in the song “Someday We’ll Know” that I just was hearing on the radio. When I watched that movie, I heard Jars of Clay’s hit song Flood. And I have been a Jars of Clay fan and that prompted me to buy the OST of that movie. One other thing that prompted me to buy the OST is because I hear on the radio this “Only Hope” being sung by a very interesting raspy voice with some appealing guitar plucking. And love to play the guitar, baby. But I was still unaware of this Switchfoot original until I bought the OST. And there you go, found out good good good songs from Switchfoot – “Dare You to Move”, “You,” and there I’ve found “Only Hope” to be originally by Siwtchfoot. And also remembered this was the Christian band I saw a few years back in that Christian Music Channel. Now their songs impressed me and got hooked with their other tunes like “Learning to Breathe”, “Meant to Live,” “Stars”, “This is Your Life”, Shadow Proves the Sunshine,” and the list goes on.

Hello Hurricane Tour in Manila and Singapore
Singapore say Hello to a Hurricane brought by Switchfoot.
Manila, Manila, Switchfoot is coming back to Manila.
Switchfoot live in Manila for the second time with their Hurricane tour? That is very surprising. Never thought they’d be back for another concert in Singapore and the Philippines. Could it be that Jerome Fontamillas, the Filipino guitarist/ keyboardist in the band, is missing his hometown in the Philippines. And he could pull his band way back to his country? (Click here to see a blog about Jerome Fontanilla) Or maybe Switchfoot just feels so honored by the support being shown by its Filipino fans. Filipino fans for sure are proud of their “kababayan” being a member of Switchfoot and even more proud of the band heading again to Manila for another concert, the Hurricane tour.
And I think this is also not the first time Switchfoot is coming to Singapore. Asia is just a very good place to hold concert isn't it?
So get ready Philippines and Singapore -- say Hello Hurricane.
THE HURRICANE TOUR
Great Asian tour for Switchfoot.
April 28, 2011 in Singapore at the Rock Auditorium
Aprl 30, 2011 in Manila at Philippine Sports Arena (formerly Ultra)
